We are a London-based editorial consultancy specialising in STEM. We work with universities, technology firms, and media brands like The Economist, Politico, MIT Technology Review and Elsevier to develop compelling media projects. Our specialisms are health and medicine, sustainability, and artificial intelligence, but we’ve tackled everything from cybersecurity to cryptocurrencies.

Our projects run the gamut from in-depth thought leadership reports to data visualisations and podcasts. We also support organisations with media and communications strategy. Our team combines experience in journalism, consulting and academia. Our past and present clients include companies like Microsoft, AWS, Dropbox and Databricks; international organisations like the United Nations, UNICEF and the World Bank; and higher education institutions including the University of Birmingham and the University of Melbourne.

We are hiring a full-time Associate Researcher to support our mission to bring the stories of STEM to life. This is a new role to become the third full-time team member, alongside our freelance contributors. We are seeking someone with excellent penmanship and a strong interest in science and tech. The ideal candidate would bring ideas and care to their work and enjoy being part of a high-functioning team. The role will be autonomous and suit a self-starter who likes to take ownership of their work and holds themselves to a high standard.

The tasks and responsibilities range widely. They include:

  • Writing and leading editorial initiatives in their domain of experience or interest.
  • Conducting literature reviews and writing concise trend summaries.
  • Hunting for data, case studies and evidence to support editorial projects.
  • Editing transcripts and organising qualitative research materials.
  • Sourcing expert interviewees, collecting contact information, and organising and conducting interviews.
  • Project management (e.g., organising sub-editing, design, consolidating edits and feedback and overseeing smooth production delivery).
  • Administrative support (e.g., drafting communications, managing feedback and editing from multiple stakeholders, quote-checking with interviewees, fact-checking).
  • Proactively identifying business development opportunities.

Attributes:

  • Relevant university degree, ideally to master’s level.
  • Relevant work experience, which can include internships or volunteering.
  • Proven interest in STEM.
  • Excellent English language writing skills.
  • Attention to detail and good organisational skills, including time management.
  • Curious, creative and conscientious.
  • Good sense of humour and team player.
  • Self-starter and critical thinker.
  • Flexible and able to shift between tasks and projects as needed.

This is a full-time contract with a starting salary of £35,000. The candidate must have the right to work in the UK.

The role may be hybrid (London, preferred) or fully remote depending on the candidate.
