Manuscripts and Special Collections is expanding! This is one of two fixed-term posts being created to increase access to our collections.

You will play an important role in opening up our collections, focusing on the cataloguing of our archival collections to increase discoverability. You will create detailed, item-level catalogues for collections that have not previously been worked on and will also focus on upgrading the large amount of collection information currently held in box lists and spreadsheets - completing and opening partially catalogued collections. You will also help promote the collections you catalogue, working with colleagues in Manuscripts and Special Collections to increase their usage. You will also be part of our Reading Room rota, assisting users to access the collections and answering any enquiries.

You will be a qualified archivist with experience of cataloguing, knowledge of cataloguing standards and familiarity with using an archive management system. Recent archival graduates are encouraged to apply.

You will be a self-motivated individual able to work under your own initiative. You will share UoN Libraries’ core values of respect, appreciation, ownership and curiosity.

So what’s in it for you? You will be working with unique and fascinating collections, helping to bring them to the attention of a wider audience and ensuring that their potential is realised. Manuscripts and Special Collections is part of the University of Nottingham Libraries. We have in our care over 3.5 million archival items and 80,000 printed items in the special collections. Our collections include the designated DH Lawrence, Newcastle and Portland collections, the records of local businesses and organisations, ecclesiastical records including those of the Archdeaconry of Nottingham; the papers of political, diplomatic, literary, scientific and academic figures; historical records of the University and its predecessor, University College Nottingham. We are an accredited archive service.

As a university employee you will have an excellent choice of benefits and rewards, including access to fitness and health facilities, staff discounts and travel schemes, along with 30 days’ holiday allowance (plus additional university closure days) and a highly attractive pension scheme. You can find out more about our benefits by visiting Your Benefits page.

This is a full-time (36.25 hours per week), fixed-term opportunity until the 31st July 2029. Hours of work include one regular, weekday evening shift until 6pm. Job share arrangements may be considered.

Requests for secondment from internal candidates may be considered on the basis that prior agreement has been sought from both your current line manager and the manager of your substantive post, if you are already undertaking a secondment role.

This position is based at King’s Meadow Campus, with limited opportunities for home working.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to Hayley Cotterill, tel: 0115 951 4563 or Nicola Wood, tel: 0115 956 8644. Or email Hayley.Cotterill@nottingham.ac.uk, or Nicola.Wood1@nottingham.ac.uk. Please note that applications sent directly to this email address will not be accepted.
