We have an excellent opportunity for an Associate Lecturer in Counselling to join the teaching team on the following programmes:

  • MSc Psychodynamic Counselling and Psychotherapy;
  • MSc Psychodynamic Counselling and Psychotherapy with Children and Adolescents;
  • Graduate Certificate Foundation for Counselling and Psychotherapy Training

Your main task will be the preparation, teaching, administration, and assessment of modules. Classes meet weekly starting the last week of September until July 2025 (no classes during summer recess, but some late marking and tutorials may be needed).

MSc Psychodynamic Counselling and Psychotherapy (with Adults or with Children and Adolescents)
 - Weekly classes Monday and Tuesday daytimes from the last week of September until July 2025 (no teaching during Christmas and Easter holidays).

Indicative timetables can be found below. Teaching is for 30 weeks unless otherwise indicated. Multiple tutors are needed for each course and ideally you would be available for at least two sessions, however applications are invited for one or more of the following sessions:

Year 1 on Mondays:

  • 1.30pm – 2.45pm Observation (adults)
  • 3pm – 4.15pm Experiential group (Chn & Adolescents)

Year 2/3 on Tuesdays:

Y2:

  • 9.15am – 10.30am Counselling Workshop (adults)
  • 11am – 12.15pm Case Discussion (adults)
  • 3pm – 4.15pm Experiential group (adults)

 Y3:

  • 9.15am – 10.30am Case Discussion (adults)
  • 11.40-12.15pm – Evidence Based Practice (10wks, Term 1)*

(One session amounts to c. 35 hours over three terms, two sessions 70 hours, etc. – Exception of Y3 EBP as indicated above*)

Graduate Certificate Foundation for Counselling and Psychotherapy Training - Weekly classes on Thursday evenings from first week in October until second week of July (no teaching during Christmas and Easter holidays). The timetable is:

Thursday evenings:

  • 6pm – 9pm (with a 15 minute break)
    2.75 hours a week over 30 weeks, totalling 82.5 hours.

You will be a psychodynamic counsellor or psychotherapist, or a psychoanalytic psychotherapist, trained to masters level or equivalent, with substantial, post-qualification clinical experience, some of which will ideally be in a public setting. You will have experience of different types of teaching methods and strategies appropriate to counselling/psychotherapy (in particular, both experiential and critical teaching methods). 

Further to the person specification, essential requirements for this role are: 

  • A clinical qualification in psychodynamic counselling, psychodynamic psychotherapy, or psychoanalytic psychotherapy;
  • A current clinical practice and substantial, post-qualification clinical experience, some of which will ideally be in a public setting;
  • Teaching experience appropriate to the level of the course you are applying to teach;

Remuneration

Starting rate £66.70 per hour inclusive of pro-rata London Allowance and holiday pay, salary is based on an hourly rate depending on length of continuous service with the College for contact hours worked.
