Birkbeck, University of London, is seeking a dedicated and experienced Head of Academic Standards & Quality to provide leadership to our Academic Standards and Quality team. In this pivotal role, you will ensure Birkbeck maintains its reputation for excellence and compliance with external quality assurance frameworks.

As the Head of Academic Standards & Quality, you will:

  • Lead and manage the Academic Standards and Quality team within the Education and Student Experience Directorate.
  • Ensure appropriate and up-to-date quality assurance, regulatory, and legal frameworks in line with external requirements.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance on quality assurance systems and processes so they operate effectively, efficiently and provide key information Birkbeck requires for internal and external reviews.
  • Act as the professional service strategic lead for student complaints, conduct and appeals matters, covering all aspects of student behaviour and concerns including both academic and non-academic issues.
  • Represent Birkbeck in external quality assurance bodies and national groups.

To be successful in the role of Head of Academic Standards & Quality you will:

  • Have excellent leadership, analytical, communication and personal skills.
  • Have experience of working effectively with students and be passionate about ensuring they have an effective framework for representation and a voice in making a positive difference to education at Birkbeck.
  • Experience in managing quality assurance and enhancement in higher education.
  • The ability to manage complex workloads and motivate a team, working with staff at all levels to ensure centrally agreed policy is implemented and adopted fairly and consistently across all faculties and schools.

The Head of Academic Standards & Quality will be a key member of the team's senior management team. Salary and benefits:

£61,856 rising to £69,074 per annum, Grade 9 of the College's London Pay Scale which includes a consolidated Weighting/Allowance that applies only to staff whose normal contractual place of work is in the London area.

Contract:

Open-ended, permanent contract. Full-time (35 hours a week). Hybrid working with two days a week on site.
