About the Role

Leeds City College are recruiting for two PMLD (profound and multiple learning disability) trainers to join our team. This role is reduced year 39 weeks.

We are looking for two experienced trainers to contribute to the delivery of our courses in Independent Living skills with the focus on the key aspects of The Preparation for Adulthood framework:

  • Planning a Programme of study in line with the objectives of the curriculum
  • Creating lessons and resources to engage and develop learners
  • Teaching principles and practical skills to help our learners along their journey into Adulthood
  • Assessing the progress the learners make, marking work and feeding back in a way which helps them develop  their abilities and understanding
  • Tracking learner outcomes and working to ensure students are making progress
  • You will also work as part of a team to create a nurturing, positive environment for the learners

The Vine is a department with over 70 Learners with Complex needs and behaviours that can challenge. We deliver a varied Curriculum to meet each of our learners' individual needs in line with their EHCP's. Our highly skilled team takes pride in developing our learners' personal and preparation for adulthood skills to prepare them for their future life. We have strong emphasis on working as a team, offering mutual support and flexibility while striving for the highest standards for our learners. Our ultimate goal is to enable our learners to become as independent as possible and lead a happy fulfilled life.

What You Will Do

  • To ensure that all students have access to a broad and balanced curriculum, through  RARPA, recognising and recording progress and achievement.  This is differentiated to enable students to have opportunities of learning around what is important for/to them.
  • To motivate students of all abilities and aptitudes, providing personalised learning pathways, using a tiered process  and adapting teaching responsively to need. This enables progression towards independence and making  opportunities for making choices whether that is further education or social care provisions. 
  • To celebrate students’ success and recognise achievement, emphasising the importance of wider, holistic progress and developing self-motivation. 
  • To provide an accessible learning environment, which is tailored to the individual needs of all pupils and preparation of  adulthood agenda.
  • To develop students independence and life skills using a tiered approach to learning.
  • To create meaningful learning  built on nurturing, promoting greater independence, enabling all to feel safe and have a student voice.
  • You will apply restorative practice to your communications with learners and colleagues and be a proactive, flexible and supportive member of the team. You will also have experience of processes ensuring that the care and support is delivered within the guidelines of the college wide quality assurance policies and contribute enthusiastically to the overall success of the department.

About You

  • You will have successfully taught and have relevant, up to date knowledge of your subject specialism. You will hold, or be working towards a recognised teaching qualification.
  • You will have  experience in a Further Education setting specialising in PMLD and complex needs and be able to demonstrate a passion for new and innovative ideas.

  • Your experience will include positively managing students to ensure excellent retention, achievement, success and attendance with our cohort of learners.

  • You will build positive relationships with students and staff using restorative practice techniques, be flexible and a positive role model across our campus.

  • Your skill-set will also include excellent organisation skills and the ability to provide productive insight into the development of the courses.
