Technical Demonstrator in Paint required to support art and design courses at Bath Spa University, working with staff and students in a range of specialist paint techniques, colour theory and art history.
About the Role
The BSU workshops provide support to students studying courses in Bath School of Art, Film & Media and Bath School of Design, but also more broadly across the university. Our Locksbrook campus provides a range of opportunities to develop technical support in our exciting areas of art and making.
As a Technical Demonstrator you will join an outstanding team of practitioners offering specialist support to students and staff on creative courses in BSU. In the Technical Demonstrator Paint role your main duty will be to work with staff and students demonstrating technical and practical processes using a range of skills and materials in workshops and studios in support of academic programmes. You will demonstrate in-depth knowledge and skills in specialist technical painting, particularly in the area of Fine Art.
About You
You will have in-depth knowledge and experience of working with specialist painting techniques. Using your technical and practical skills, you will be able to support the teaching and learning of our students in the preparation of painting surfaces including; stretching canvas and papers, preparing boards, finishing techniques and the display and conservation of works. You will have a sound knowledge of colour theory, art history and contemporary painting.
You will be IT literate and able to provide technical support for practical and digital processes, and provide advice to students and staff within workshop facilities, and to induct students and staff in the safe and effective use of workshop facilities to support learning. You will also be able to work with individuals or groups of students on complex paint techniques to support lecturing and individual project work, including students using workshop facilities for project work.
You will have strong communication skills, a keen interest in higher education and you should be able to evidence a proactive approach to development and safety in the campus workshops. Flexibility, as well as the ability to work effectively on your own and as part of a team, is essential.
Additional Information
This this is an annualised hours contract for 1,273 hours per year (including holidays). When the hours are to be worked will be agreed with your line manager based on operational requirements.
