LSE Health

This is a full-time, fixed-term appointment for 2 - 3 years.

We invite applications for a Research Officer to work on the randomised evaluation of a school health programme in Zambia and other projects related to the demand and supply of healthcare in LMIC settings. The project is led by Dr Mylène Lagarde and is funded by USAID DIV and the MRC. The aim of the project is to understand whether school health interventions can overcome the under-provision of healthcare to primary school aged children, improving their health and education outcomes.

Who you are. You have an MSc or PhD in economics or a closely related quantitative social science field and a strong interest in working at the intersection of health and development economics and using experimental methods. You are an ambitious and hard-working candidate seeking to build strong skills and experience in randomised evaluations, or to continue building an existing research portfolio. You have experience in data analysis and the ability to manage and support data collection for complex teams and projects.

What you will do. The Research Officer will work under the supervision of Dr Lagarde and collaborate with several colleagues across countries and institutions. You will participate in the day-to-day research and fieldwork activities, including: (1) developing research protocols, conducting pilot studies, and fine-tuning research plans; (2) conducting data cleaning and analyses; (3) supporting the preparation of academic publications and dissemination of results; (4) project management, including the development of detailed data collection protocols and training field teams; (5) Supporting all other phases of research, including pre-registrations, analysis plans, IRB submissions, and funding proposals.

Why join us. You will join an exciting project, funded by key UK and US government donors with a focus on the most innovative programmes in developing countries. You will join an existing team of diverse, friendly and supportive colleagues in a growing research group, with a multitude of connections to help boost your network. We will support you in developing the next stages of your career, including grant and fellowship applications as relevant. We value a diversity of disciplines, backgrounds, thoughts and approaches. LSE offers an occupational pension scheme, generous annual leave, hybrid working, and excellent training and development opportunities.
