About the role 

We are seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Associate to join the Molecular Parasitology group of Professor Matt Higgins at the Department of Biochemistry. We are a research team who study the structural basis for host-parasite interactions mediated by human infective parasites that cause diseases such as malaria and sleeping sickness (www.higginslab.web.ox.ac.uk). You will aim to understand structures of critical proteins from the gametocyte form of the malaria parasite and how they are recognised by human antibodies. 

This full-time fixed term post is funded by the Medical Research Council for up to 2 years. 

The actual starting salary offered will be based on qualifications and relevant skills acquired and will also be determined by the funding available.

About you 

Applicants will hold a PhD/DPhil, or be near completion of a PhD/DPhil in a relative subject to Biochemistry or Structural Biology and have experience in protein expression and purification and the analysis of protein-protein interactions. You should also have experience of structural biology methods, in particular x-ray crystallography or electron cryo-microscopy and data processing. Enthusiasm for working in a laboratory environment, a pro-active determination to drive forward an important research project and a willingness to work with others is also expected, together with excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
