This is a strategic post within the Department of Biology. A large and internationally prominent department, Biology, has over 675 students and around 450 staff. The department, along with the Department of Experimental Psychology, is due to move into the new Life and Mind Building (LaMB) in 2025, the University’s largest-ever building project.

Reporting to the MPLS Divisional Registrar and working in day-to-day partnership with the incoming Head of Department, the role of Head of Administration and Finance in Biology is an exciting and demanding Professional Services leadership role, responsible for supporting the formulation and implementation of departmental strategy and the leadership and delivery of outstanding professional services for academic staff, researchers and students.

You will have extensive experience at senior level in a devolved, complex and varied working environment and will bring a collaborative, proactive and forward-looking approach to the role, underpinned with commitment and visible leadership to help take Biology through the critical next phase of its development. Alongside the Head of Department, you will need to anticipate and manage potential operational and strategic issues, identify sound solutions to problems that arise and implement decisions effectively. You will excel at personnel management, effectively building relationships at all levels effectively interfacing with stakeholders and influencing results and have the intellectual capacity and strength of character to support the making and implementation of important, complex, and difficult decisions. You will have sound judgement under pressure and be able to think laterally and creatively.
