A postdoctoral position is available for 2 years, with a possible extension of another 2 years, through UKRI funding underwriting a European Research Council (ERC) Advanced Grant. This position is open to an outstanding and ambitious computational scientist with an interest in the design of machine learning potentials for biomolecular simulation.

By its novel architecture, the fully in-house developed force field FFLUX aims to make a step change in the reliability of modelling of peptides/proteins in aqueous solution.

The machine learning method Gaussian Process Regression is used to create knowledgeable quantum atoms that accurately predict energies and multipole moments.

Based within the Department of Chemistry at the University of Manchester, you will work with Prof Popelier and his research group. The Department is ranked 4th in Great Britain and 7th in Europe by the 2022 Nature Index.

Overall Purpose of the Job

You should have a PhD in computer science or in physical sciences with expertise in programming. The post attracts applicants with experience in research in method development in computational chemistry. You should be capable of working by your own initiative while interacting effectively in a sizeable research team. Therefore, excellent communication and organisational skills are also required.
