Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Cardiovascular Medicine

University of Oxford

Location: Oxford
Salary: £36,024 to £44,263
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Fixed-Term/Contract
Placed On: 5th August 2024
Closes: 16th September 2024
Job Ref: 174363

We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Assistant with expertise and interest in Biochemistry to join the Reader and Tzima research groups at the Centre for Human Genetics in Oxford. You will closely collaborate with other laboratory members involved in more cell biological approaches, thereby facilitating an integrative research environment.

The overarching goal of the project is to gain an understanding of fundamental mechanisms of protein synthesis from both a biochemical and biophysical perspective. The groups have been investigating the interaction of two ancient cellular machineries, i.e. the protein translation and cytoskeletal machineries and this project will investigate how these cross-talk. We use a multi-disciplinary approach that includes expertise and collaborations in enzymology, biochemistry, structural biology, and cell biology, and use a combination of in vitro and ex cellulo approaches. The group has access to a range of state-of-the-art facilities and technologies within the Centre of Human Genetics, and more broadly as part of the University of Oxford.

You are required to hold a PhD/DPhil in a relevant discipline and will carry out independent research exploring fundamental mechanisms of key cellular functions from both a biophysical and biochemical perspective. You will also have proven experience in recombinant protein purification from both bacterial and eukaryotic protein expression systems, a familiarity with basic enzymology, and experience in the characterization of individual proteins and/or protein-protein interactions. Previous experience/familiarity with in vitro RNA preparative techniques and assays would be desirable.

This is a full time appointment on a fixed term contract for 1 year (with the possibility of extending for a further 2 years) and you will be based at the Centre for Human Genetics, Old Road Campus, Roosevelt Drive, Oxford, OX3 7BN.

Applications for this vacancy are to be made online; you will be required to upload a CV and supporting statement which explains how you meet the selection criteria for the post.

Only applications received before 12.00 midday on 16th September 2024 can be considered. Interviews are scheduled to place the week of 30th September 2024.
