About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Research Community Coordinator to join Oxford Cancer. Cancer Research UK (CRUK) is building a Research Data Community Support Unit (DCSU) with their £2.5m investment. The aim of this unit is to support a connected and collaborative data community that tackles common challenges collectively, shares best practices and drives data culture change. Activities are driven by a group of community leads across 6 areas of special interest.

Oxford Cancer is working together with CRUK to support the development of this new research data community network, and we are looking to appoint a full time Research Community Coordinator based at the Oxford University’s Biomedical Research Campus in Headington. This role is the critical link between the cancer research data community and CRUK. The coordinator will support the community leads in delivery of DCSU virtual and in-person networking, events, and activities, as well as the development and dissemination of outputs from funded projects.

This post is offered on a full-time, fixed-term basis for 3 years and based at the Oxford Cancer, OCDEM, Churchill Hospital, Oxford, OX3 7LE.

About you

You will have a PhD in data science and/or cancer research (or another relevant field), along with experience managing complex, multi-disciplinary, multi-organisation research communities. You will demonstrate proven project management and organisational skills, as well as possessing a demonstrable track record of leading and developing others through direct line and matrix management. This should include setting and monitoring objectives, overseeing personal development by identifying training opportunities, and independently identifying and addressing performance gaps. You will have experience with budget management and financial processes, including collaborating with Finance on budget planning, reporting, and reconciliations. Your ability to negotiate deadlines and deliverables appropriately, while seeking advice as required to maintain stakeholder buy-in, will be essential. You will facilitate research using sensitive data, with a solid understanding of information governance policy and ethical considerations. A qualification (or equivalent experience) in program and project management and organisational skills would be advantageous for this role.
