The post

The Department of Health and Community Science wishes to recruit a Senior Research Physiotherapist to deliver the GRRAND process evaluation research. Getting Recovery Right After Neck Dissection for Head and Neck Cancer (GRRAND) is a National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) funded randomised controlled clinical trial. The aim is to evaluate the clinical and cost-effectiveness of a personalised, physiotherapy-led, rehabilitation intervention (the GRRAND programme). This will be compared to best practice NHS, post-discharge care for adults undergoing neck dissection for head and neck cancer. This post is available from 1st November 2024 to 31st October 2027. The successful applicant will inform, design and make minor refinements to session Clinical Report Forms and patient-facing materials; provide physiotherapists training and evaluate training experiences; monitor fidelity of delivery for intervention and control sessions, providing feedback and additional training if required; further evaluate the GRRAND programme delivery (physiotherapists) and engagement and uptake (participants) to inform what works for whom and in what contexts.

About you

Applicants will be able to contribute to the development of research strategies; participate in the overall management of the Department in areas such as strategic planning, budget management and business planning; plan and deliver research, consultancy or similar programmes and actively seek and secure research funding.

The successful applicant will possess a relevant PhD or equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study and will be a nationally recognised authority in physiotherapy and ideally possess in-depth understanding of musculoskeletal and/or surgical rehabilitation to enable the development of new knowledge and understanding within the field. In addition, the successful applicant will provide academic leadership to research teams, lead and develop internal and external networks and develop links with external contacts in order to foster collaboration and generate income. Applicants will work with Professor Sarah Dean and the wider GRRAND research team to apply their qualitative and quantitative research skills and physiotherapy experience in the evaluation of a complex exercise-based rehabilitation intervention.
