About the Project Curator role:

We are seeking an exceptional candidate to lead the national review of Caribbean natural science collections in Scottish museums funded by the John Ellerman Foundation. The successful candidate will be responsible for mapping and researching the collection histories of Caribbean natural science collections in Scotland and connecting them with communities in Scotland and the Caribbean.

As a Project Curator at National Museums Scotland you will:

  • Map, research, and characterise Caribbean natural science collections in Scottish Museums, focusing on their collecting and cultural histories  
  • Develop partnerships with Scottish museums
  • Develop partnerships with descendent and local communities in the Caribbean and Scotland
  • Prepare a final report for online publication

Skills and experience we’re looking for in our Project Curator:

  • A relevant first degree or equivalent experience
  • Experience of working with Caribbean and/or Natural Science collections and/or collection histories 
  • Experience of undertaking research
  • Experience of working with descendent communities
  • Knowledge of and commitment to collection management best practice
