About the role

King’s Health Partners Women and Children Health Clinical Academic Partnership are looking for a research associate to support the services we provide.

You will manage and contribute to a wide range of research and evaluation projects related to improving health outcomes for women and children accessing health services in South East London. Part of the role will be dedicated to managing an ongoing health systems project, including data collection, data analysis, and the preparation of reports, papers and presentations.

We are looking for a qualitative researcher with experience of working in a transdisciplinary team and managing research and evaluation projects. The post-holder will oversee the day-to-day implementation of the Resilient Health Systems (RHS) project which aims to understand the resilience capacities of the South East London health system. They will have a key role in managing the RHS project, including designing evaluation projects, undertaking data collection and data analysis, and preparing reports, papers and presentations.

Additionally, the post-holder will provide technical support to Ask the Institute, a research advisory service for clinical academics and operational managers that aids evidence-based decision making and generates new research. They will be expected to undertake a wide range of research activities (including rapid evidence review and qualitative data collection and analysis) as well as drafting reports, peer-reviewed publications and assisting in developing research proposals.

This is a full-time role, and you will be offered a fixed term contract until 31 August 2025. This is a hybrid role; you will be expected to attend in-person at least one day a week.

About you

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

  • PhD qualified in public health, epidemiology, social sciences or a related discipline*
  • Experience of qualitative data collection, analysis and preparation of scientific or policy reports
  • Experience managing UK-based health service or complex intervention evaluations or managing large-scale research projects in the English National Health Service (NHS)
  • Ability to work with NHS professionals in evaluating and contributing to policy recommendations
  • Experience of providing technical research support and feedback to academics or clinical staff or non-governmental organisations
  • Willingness to travel across South East London to undertake data collection (including ethnography)
  • Highly competent in qualitative research methods and analysis (particularly in workshop and focus group discussion facilitation)
  • Ability to make decisions and initiate action independently where appropriate

*Please note that this is a PhD level role but candidates who have submitted their thesis and are awaiting award of their PhDs will be considered. In these circumstances the appointment will be made at Grade 5, spine point 30 with the title of Research Assistant. Upon confirmation of the award of the PhD, the job title will become Research Associate and the salary will increase to Grade 6

Desirable criteria

  • Experience conducting a Delphi study
  • Demonstrable knowledge or interest in Women’s Health, Child Health, Health Inequalities or Health Systems Strengthening
  • Experience undertaking Theory of Change or logic model workshops
  • Experience undertaking ethnography or novel qualitative data collection methods
  • Experience undertaking basic statistical analysis in Stata, SPSS, or R
