Join us in the ambitious ‘Birmingham In Action’ campaign, which commits to raising over £600 million of charitable funding and 1,250,000 volunteer hours, positioning the University as one of the world leaders in University development. To fulfil our exciting campaign ambitions, we are recruiting a Prospect Development Manager to join our creative and dynamic Prospect Development Team. Working with the Head of Prospect Development you will help to maximise philanthropic funding for our campaign. You will be responsible for leading on prospect identification for High-Net Worth Individuals (HNWIs), corporates, trusts, and international portfolios, helping to improve prospect management practices, and working with the Head of Prospect Development on DARO’s philanthropic due diligence process. You will be innovative, self-motivated, and take ownership of a range of prospect research and development projects, and help our Fundraising Team to take our campaign ambitions to the next level. 

DARO (The Development and Alumni Relations Office) exists to support the University’s academic and student community by engaging, inspiring, and celebrating alumni, individuals, and charitable funders who give their money, time, and networks to support the University’s strategic priorities. The Office, which is comprised of five teams, is focused on fundraising and volunteering from alumni, organisations and individuals who are passionate about changing lives, through funding various research trials, supporting student bursaries, mentoring students, and providing internships. We are currently at the heart of delivering the Birmingham in Action campaign with goals to raise £600m and generate 1,250,000 volunteer hours.  

Main duties

As Prospect Development Manager you will excel in the following areas: 

  • Supporting the Head of Prospect Development in identifying and undertaking proactive research projects and scoping new opportunities for high-capacity prospect identification (e.g. data segmentations that yield prospects). 
  • Delivering project and operational support to the Head of Prospect Development by leading and managing a range of projects alongside day-to-day task management oversight. 
  • Managing day-to-day prospect identification processes. This includes identifying and evaluating potential and existing fundraising prospects, both individuals, corporates, and charitable foundations in the UK and internationally, through desk-based research using online sources (e.g. LinkedIn/Companies House). 

Required Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications, Experience

  • Educated to Degree level (or equivalent qualifications). Where no equivalent qualification is held, significant practical relevant experience and expertise in a similar role will be required. 
  • Significant experience and understanding of fundraising prospect research or undertaking research in a professional or academic capacity (e.g. market research, academic research, evaluations of projects/services). 
  • An understanding of the fundraising process in order to focus prospect research efforts to help DARO achieve fundraising targets.
