The role

The School of Physics at the University of Bristol seeks an outstanding academic for a 5-year fixed-term academic appointment at lecturer level to support the Quantum Information Science & Technologies Centre for Doctoral Training (QIST CDT). The appointee will contribute to the CDT training programme, support the large postgraduate student community, and will also be given the opportunity to establish their own independent research programme within the Quantum Engineering Technology Laboratories (QETLabs).

The Quantum Information Science and Technologies Centre for Doctoral Training (QIST CDT) sits across the Universities of Bristol & Sussex. It is an EPSRC-sponsored training programme offering 4 year PhD scholarships with a first year of taught activities. The programme aims to deliver on EPSRC’s Research Priority of Quantum Technologies – supporting research across both institutions. The CDT is one of 5 funded by EPSRC within the UK & builds upon the 10-year legacy of the world-renowned Quantum Engineering CDT.

What will you be doing?

This role will be involved in a range of activities in the School of Physics and within QETLabs.

In particular, you will:

  • Contribute to teaching within the QIST CDT, including lecture courses, problem classes, workshops, & project supervision
  • Undertake administrative and leadership duties commensurate with the role & career stage, specified by the QIST CDT Director
  • Carry out internationally impactful research related to the field of quantum information science & technologies as part of QET Labs
  • You will be expected to lead and participate in a range of research programmes and seek funding from EPSRC, Innovate UK and others.
  • Actively participate in supervision and tutoring of undergraduate and postgraduate research students

You should apply if

  • You have experience in teaching effectively at both undergraduate & postgraduate levels in the relevant area, both in small and large group settings
  • You are able to conduct high quality research.
  • You have a first degree and PhD (or equivalent doctoral qualification) in physics, engineering or related area.
  • You have excellent organisational and administrative skills.
  • You can contribute effectively to the CDT, School and Faculty in teaching, research & administration.
