Senior Library Assistant (Spanish, Portuguese, Catalan, and Latin American)

University of Cambridge - Modern and Medieval Languages and Linguistics (MMLL) Library and the Seeley Library

Location: Cambridge
Salary: £25,742 to £29,605
Hours: Part Time
Contract Type: Permanent
Placed On: 30th July 2024
Closes: 18th August 2024
Job Ref: VE42402

The Modern and Medieval Languages and Linguistics (MMLL) Library and the Seeley Library are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated person to join our dedicated and professional library teams to deliver a high quality, inclusive and efficient Library service. This role is a great opportunity to provide frontline support to a vibrant research and teaching community by working as part of two library teams.

The successful applicant will be responsible for maintaining and developing the Spanish, Portuguese, Latin American and Catalan collections. You will liaise with the Spanish and Portuguese Section to provide extensive Library support for the courses run by the MMLL Faculty. You will also work closely with the Centre of Latin American Studies and be responsible for ensuring they have access to library resources. Knowledge of Spanish is essential for this post, and you should be familiar with the cultures associated with the languages taught in the Section, including Latin American literature and culture.

You will have a variety of responsibilities: you will create and maintain online reading lists using Leganto, our reading list system, and you will order, catalogue, classify and promote the books and other materials on reading lists. You will also train our readers on making the best use of the specialist resources available to them.

You will be expected to contribute to the smooth running of the library service in both libraries and will be keen to offer a great customer service experience, both in person and online. Reporting directly to the Seeley Librarian and the MMLL Librarian, you will be involved in supporting the undergraduate and MPhil community. You will work amongst two supportive teams and have opportunities to work on joint ventures, as well as completing your own tasks.

To be considered for this role, you must have sound knowledge of Spanish and you will ideally also have a working knowledge of Portuguese. You should demonstrate an adaptable and flexible approach to delivering library services/customer services, with a creative and innovative approach to problem-solving. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential and you should enjoy working alongside others as well as independently. Excellent IT skills are also essential for this post; full training will be given on our library management system, Alma.

We welcome applications from individuals who wish to be considered for part-time working or other flexible working arrangements.

Enquiries are welcome and should be directed to both Paul Cooke, Seeley Librarian via email pkc24@cam.ac.uk and Hélène Fernandes, MMLL Librarian, hk225@cam.ac.uk
