This new part – time (0.5FTE) post is available from the 1st of October 2024 on a fixed term basis for 18 months.

Summary of the role 

The Faculty wishes to recruit a Trial Manager to work on GREENGAGE, a pilot randomised control trial and process evaluation of a nature-based intervention for people with mental ill health.  The overall aim of the project is to test and finalise the processes for undertaking a definitive, fully-powered RCT of the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of a group, nature-based intervention.

This NIHR-funded post is available for 18 months from 1 October 2024 (or as soon as possible thereafter).

We are looking for an enthusiastic trial manager for this multi-centre pilot randomised controlled trial and process evaluation of group, nature-based activities for mental health (GREENGAGE). The successful candidate will play a leading role in planning, coordinating and completing the study to time and to target, as part of a multidisciplinary team.  They will have knowledge of applicable national regulations, and be able to provide regulatory and/or governance advice where required. They will have excellent communication and presentation skills, together with the ability to organise and motivate others. Key activities and deliverables will include: supporting sponsorship and ethics permissions, convening oversight committee meetings, overseeing the budget, establishing and managing data collection and storage systems, ensuring compliance with the protocol and approved processes, establishing and managing files systems, oversight of recruitment systems, regular liaison with study sites and other members of the team, and monitoring study progress to ensure adherence to the study plan.

About you

The successful applicant will be able to develop research objectives, projects and proposals; identify sources of research funding and contribute to the process of securing funds and make presentations at conferences and other events.

Applicants will possess a relevant PhD or equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study. The successful applicant will be a nationally recognised authority in a relevant field (such as health services research, medicine, social science) and possess sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline to develop research programmes and methodologies. The successful applicant will also be able to work collaboratively, supervise the work of others and act as team leader as required. You will understand the processes and regulations supporting successful RCTs and trial management processes. You will have previously used of relevant software. You will have strong project management and organizational skills, and be familiar with managing research budgets and developing trial management files systems.
