The School of Media, Arts and Humanities at the University of Sussex recently launched the Landecker Digital Memory Lab: Connective Holocaust Commemoration focused on enhancing digital literacies and capacities in organisations dealing with the Holocaust and victims of National Socialism, across the world. Alongside the production of novel, interdisciplinary research, the Lab’s team will produce original digital outputs and will collaborate to provide an extensive impact and knowledge exchange programme working with project partners in the UK, Norway, the Netherlands, Germany, Poland, and Serbia, to host events that bring together heritage professionals, academics, and those working in the creative and tech industries in different regions. Hours: full time (January 2025-May 2027); part-time 0.5 FTE (June 2027-May 2029)

Requests for flexible working options will be considered (subject to business need).

Team members are expected to work on campus at least two days a week (Mondays and Thursdays) and are otherwise welcome to work at home. There will be some requirement to work abroad for up to a week at a time for the purpose of business-critical events. Otherwise, all work must be carried out in the UK.  
Contract: fixed term until 31st May 2029

The School is looking to appoint a Research Fellow in Digital Humanities with an active profile in research and practice that explores the use of distant reading techniques for the presentation and exploration of data related to digital heritage and experience of, or a willingness to learn, interviewing techniques and how to record digital walkthroughs. The project will sit in both the Sussex Weidenfeld Institute of Jewish Studies and the Sussex Digital Humanities Lab, and the Research Fellow will benefit from the thriving interdisciplinary research cultures of both. You will benefit from working with the Lab’s growing international network, will have the opportunity to develop and participate in events at partner institutions across Europe, contribute to high-level policy reports, and carry out fieldwork across a variety of international Holocaust heritage sites.
