Role Summary

The post holder will be responsible for the design, build and testing of clinical trial databases using the Research Electronic Data Capture (REDCap) web application. 

The post holder will act as a source of knowledge and information on best practice around database production, data capture and processing for clinical trials in relation to REDCap. They will provide expert advice and guidance to external investigators, the internal trial management teams, and programming team members. 

The post holder will also be expected to present information to both internal and external staff and may be involved with relevant professional groups at a national level.

Person Specification

  • A degree in computer science, related discipline, equivalent professional qualifications, or substantial relevant experience.
  • Substantial experience of electronic data capture using REDCap.
  • Expert and demonstrable experience of REDCap development and administration.
  • Expert and demonstrable project management skills (assessing scale, scope, timelines and prioritising work based on stakeholder requirements) and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Structured approach to problem solving, and good logical and numerical reasoning.
  • Expert and demonstrable communication skills.
  • Ability to write documents, reports and presentations. 
  • Ability to discuss ideas clearly and translate abstract ideas to software design concepts.
  • Ability to explain technical ideas in a way that can be understood by non-technical staff.
  • Ability to present information to groups.
  • Able to work to deadlines, without close supervision and within a team. 
  • Demonstrable drive to acquire and share new skills and understanding.
  • Knowledge of the protected characteristics of the Equality Act 2010, and how to actively ensure in day-to-day activity in own area that those with protected characteristics are treated equally and fairly.
