The Strategic Programmes and Change Team at Imperial exists to ensure successful delivery, implementation, and benefits realisation of strategic programmes which enable Imperial’s Strategy as a world changing global powerhouse.

As a Senior Project Manager for Portfolio Performance, you will be joining our Strategic Programmes Team at an exciting time as it is expands to lead project, programme and portfolio management across a range of strategic programmes at Imperial.

What you would be doing

Your focus will be to:

  • Deliver effective governance to ensure the Operations and Infrastructure Committee, which acts as our portfolio board, receives a clear view of activities to enable effective planning, prioritisation and decision making, and to maximise the delivery of outcomes.
  • Actively monitor performance of delivery across the portfolio, strengthening delivery across a range of aspects of project and programme management through leading project workshops, providing short term support on corrective action, and providing independent assurance on readiness at key stages in the delivery lifecycle.
  • Champion continuous improvement of project management disciplines seeking to influence the maturity level of how projects are delivered at the University
  • Lead and build the capability within our strategic programmes team

What we are looking for

  • A qualification and applied experience of portfolio, programme and project management methods and processes (e.g. Prince2, MSP, MoP, Agile, APM)
  • Demonstrable programme management, change, transition, and transformation experience in a complex service environment, implementing industry-standard methodologies, whilst tailoring to meet the needs of the local environment 
  • Proven ability to develop programme of change and transition strategy within a similar complex environment e.g., federated organisational model or Shared services
  • Demonstrable experience of establishing and managing portfolio management office and/or programme management offices with the requisite, people, and process management expertise
  • Experience of establishing and managing cross organisational governance, benefits management and assurance processes, with the ability to identify and deliver assurance and readiness plans
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to deal tactfully but effectively in “political environments” using influence and interpersonal skills where direct authority may not exist
  • Ability to engage with stakeholders, gaining their confidence and trust, with the ability to influence and manage the expectations of others using excellent interpersonal skills to interact at all levels 
  • Able to simultaneously manage multiple, varied, and complex activities, with the capability to collaborate across multiple teams, building and sustaining relationships 
  • A team player who can balance need, risk and pragmatism when developing solutions
  • Organised with ability to work independently and handle confidential information

Further information

The successful candidate is expected to work across our South Kensington and White City Campuses depending on project needs, with an onsite requirement of 60%.
