The Lehner Lab, based within the Cambridge Institute for Therapeutic Immunology & Infectious Disease is offering an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and talented Laboratory Supervisor to deliver day-to-day management of the research laboratory, ensuring effective and efficient operation of the research group.

We're located in the new Jeffrey Cheah Biomedical Centre building on Cambridge Biomedical Campus, near Addenbrookes Hospital.

They will provide organisational underpinning and technical support to the research team.

The responsibilities involve:

  • Training and induction to new lab members, as required, in molecular biology and tissue culture protocols.
  • Organize curation of valuable cell lines, laboratory DNA constructs, antibodies, provision of stock materials and other reagents with up to date maintenance of Excel databases of laboratory resources. Manage requests for research materials from other research laboratories.
  • Key contact for internal and external stakeholders. Liaise with group members, other laboratory managers, core facility and building managers and administrative staff in the institute to implement best practice and support operational management of the group. The post holder will have no direct line management responsibilities.
  • Responsibility for ordering laboratory consumables. The post holder will oversee the expenditure associated with the equipment and consumables budgets held by the group from diverse funding sources. They will support the Group Leader in future grant application and grant management.
  • Manage the laboratory Health and Safety regulations by writing SOPs and risk assessments, controlling use of toxins and manage adherence to H&S. Manage laboratory space and equipment, troubleshoot technical day-to-day difficulties with the equipment, organize annual pipette clinics and preventive maintenance visits of the engineers.
  • The successful job holder will be qualified to degree level or equivalent in a biological science and will have gained practical experience of working within a research laboratory. Expertise in molecular biology, biochemistry and tissue culture techniques is desirable. Required to work independently, on their own initiative, in addition to working efficiently within a team. They will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be computer literate and ideally have a working knowledge of databases, purchasing, procurement and the management of budgets.
