Background of department/role
The Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Education offers a diverse range of high-quality courses across contemporary and traditional areas of study in Arts, Humanities and Education. This role sits within the School of Teacher Education, a large academic School that delivers courses in the four discrete, but inter-linked, areas of Primary Initial Teacher Education (ITE), Secondary ITE, Further Education & Skills ITE, and Professional Learning. The School is committed to excellence in teaching, learning and the student experience, as well as growing a positive research and postgraduate culture.
The Primary ITE academic portfolio at Canterbury Christ Church University comprises undergraduate (BA Primary Education) and postgraduate (PGCE Primary Education) provision. School-based courses (PGCE with QTS and QTS-only) are also an important part of the academic portfolio including partnership working with providers of School Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT). Primary ITE also contributes to our highly innovative and successful International Qualified Teacher Status (iQTS) course. The ITE academic portfolio has recently been re-designed to meet DfE 2024 ITT Criteria, including in the delivery of Intensive Training and Practice (ITAP), for implementation from September 2024.
The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic and an experienced education professional who holds a first degree or higher degree in a cognisant discipline, and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). As a member of the School Executive Group, you will be responsible for ensuring that School, Faculty and University initiatives are implemented within a local context. The Head of Primary ITE will provide strategic leadership specific to this age-phase, including in the monitoring and evaluation of course performance metrics. With a proven track-record in highly effective leadership and management, you are an outstanding communicator who will motivate and inspire colleagues to reach their full potential.
Applications are welcome from those already working in a higher education context and those looking to transition into higher education.
