Project: Epigenomics Analyses to understand Gene Regulation in Common Complex Human Disease

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and enthusiastic computational biologist to join the research groups of Professor Jim Hughes and Associate Professor James Davies.

The primary focus of the project is to develop deep neural network based models to identify changes in the human genome which cause a spectrum of common diseases. The initial focus will be on non-coding genetics of the haematological cellular niche but the project aims to develop models across all human cell types. You will be involved with analyzing and predicting the effect of sequence variation on gene expression and will work closely alongside statisticians, computer scientists, and experimental (wet-lab) scientists in an inter-disciplinary team.

You will hold a PhD in a Biology (Genomics), computer science or mathematics discipline, or be close to completion, (thesis submitted at time of application). You will either have: a strong background in Computer Science, Statistics, or Mathematics, with experience in the analysis of epigenomics data (such as ATACseq, ChIPseq, or chromosome conformation capture (3C) sequencing); or wet-lab experience generating epigenomics datasets with some computational proficiency in their analysis. Proficiency in coding skills in R or Python will be essential. Experince in single-cell data (transcriptomics or epigenomics), and an understanding of gene regulation by non-coding DNA is desirable.

This position is fixed term for 2 years, funded by the Wellcome Trust.

Applications for this vacancy are to be made online. You will be required to upload a CV and supporting statement as part of your online application.

The closing date for this position is noon (UK time) on Monday 12th August 2024.
