We have an exciting opportunity in the Materials Science and Engineering department for someone to conduct work on steels used in transport applications.
As the Research Associate, you will be responsible for delivering an in-depth analysis of various grades of steel produced via different casting routes. This will involve characterisation of the microstructures obtained, quantification of the extent of any segregation observed, and quantification of the inclusion distribution.
You will have a PhD (or be close to completion) in materials science or metallurgy. You will have a good track record in carrying out independent and original scientific research. You will have the ability to critically analyze experimental results. Experience in the characterization of metallurgical microstructures is essential.
Please be aware that there is a requirement for the successful applicant to obtain Developed Vetting Security Clearance. Because of the level of clearance that is required to work on this project, you will need to be a British National and have resided in the UK for the past ten years for Developed Vetting Security Clearance to be undertaken.
