The School of Advanced Study (SAS) within the University of London is a unique institution in UK higher education. It is the UK’s national and international centre for the support, promotion and facilitation of research in the humanities, comprising a set of renowned institutes and central academic initiatives. The University of London Press is supported by the School of Advanced Study.
The Role
The University of London Press team has a fantastic opportunity for a new Editorial Assistant to join it at an exciting moment in its history.
UoL Press is a predominantly open access scholarly press, publishing 20 new books a year across the humanities. We are looking to appoint a part-time (0.5 FTE) Editorial Assistant to play a key role in the management and development of our ambitious publishing programme of academic books. The postholder will provide editorial support on a variety of tasks across the full lifecycle of each book and contribute to the smooth running of the books programme as a whole. Key responsibilities include coordinating the peer review process, checking and preparing submitted manuscripts for production, liaising with authors to answer queries and support timely delivery of high-quality manuscripts, and monitoring publication schedules.
We are looking for someone who has excellent organisational and communication skills, high standards of accuracy and care, and proven experience working both independently and as part of a team in a professional environment. Prior experience in publishing is desirable but not essential as full training will be given.
For a full role profile, please refer to the job description below.
Further information
To be considered for this opportunity, please submit your application and CV before the closing date at midnight on 08th August 2024.
The University will be unable to sponsor candidates for a visa for this role. Successful applicants must be able to demonstrate their right to work in the UK for the duration of their employment.
The University currently operates a Hybrid Working framework involving a mix of working remotely and in the office. Typically, the majority of employees will be able to agree to work remotely for up to 60% of their working week, role dependent, however employees will be required to attend on specific days for training or team meetings. This role is expected to be 1 day per week in the office and there is some flexibility around the working pattern, given the role’s part-time nature.

We particularly encourage applications from members of Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic communities as this group is currently under-represented at all levels within the University. All appointments will be made on merit, based on the criteria identified in the job description.
Pursuing excellence in education and equal opportunities.
