Clinical Research Fellow

We have an opportunity for Clinical Research Fellow to join our team in the School of Cardiovascular and Metabolic Health to deliver the clinical validation project within the project timeline a dedicated research fellow is required for a period of twelve months.

This role is best suited to a research physician with understanding of coronary physiology and clinical cardiology. A full-time clinical research fellow will be expected to deliver the project, undertake clinical adjudication and perform data analyses to achieve further funding applications, research outputs and dissemination of results within the twelve-month period.

To deliver this project, the fellow will contribute to the support of existing research studies and research databases within the existing portfolio, which are currently undertaking invasive coronary physiology assessments. This shall also include the opportunity to gain exposure to invasive coronary angiography, cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging and clinical trial development.

It is anticipated that this member of staff would pursue a self-funded postgraduate Master's degree centred around the virtual coronary physiology solution and contemporary analyses. The fellow will also be supported to pursue additional external funding to support progression to an MD/PhD such as a Clinical Research Training Fellowship beyond this twelve-month post.

Our project focuses on the often-overlooked area of small vessel disease in the heart, a condition affecting blood vessels too small to be seen using conventional investigations such as an angiogram but are crucial for supplying blood and oxygen to the heart. This condition can lead to serious heart issues, such as angina, heart attacks, and heart failure, due to a mismatch between the blood supply and the heart's demand for oxygen.
