STFC Scientific Computing provides large-scale computing facilities and data services at Daresbury Laboratory in Cheshire and Rutherford Appleton Laboratory in Oxfordshire. The expertise Scientific Computing brings in scientific software, and data and computation infrastructure, underpins science innovation across STFC and UKRI.
Scientific Computing has a significant and expanding programme of delivering Data Infrastructure solutions to research communities in within the UK academic sector. This post relates to the Physical Science Data Infrastructure (PSDI) project, serving the Chemical and Materials sciences. PSDI aims to deliver advanced Data Infrastructure services to its research communities to provide the essential computing needed by modern data intensive science.
PSDI has recently received significant additional funding and is expanding its activities with an ambitious delivery programme of software development and service, and also community building activities. Consequently, we are seeking a Project Delivery Manager to work with the project leaders and team to coordinate the delivery of the programme across the range of its activities.
The delivery manager will work closely with the technical and stakeholder management teams, with wider service providers within SC and with external partners and stakeholders. The delivery managers will be supported by SC’s Project Management Office, which provides a focus for best practices in project management within the department.
The role will require a focus on delivery, with a need for practical engineering judgement to steer priorities and assess the quality of the results, as well as a sound knowledge of project management principles and practices. As the programme evolves, the Delivery Manager will work with the programme leadership to adapt and extend the project plans.
