About us

The Department of Informatics is based in the iconic Bush House building (a Grade II listed building that formerly housed the BBC World Service), where some of the teaching takes place, but  you may also be required to work from any of King’s campuses.

About the role

We are looking for an experienced and suitably qualified teachers of Computer Science who are keen to be part of a successful, friendly, and dynamic collaboration with the Department of Informatics and Kings Foundations. 

As a foundation year teacher, you will be teaching highly capable and motivated international students on the Kings’ Foundations programme, which is a one year RQF (Regulated Qualification Framework) Level 3 programme for those intending to progress to undergraduate degrees at university.

While we are a campus-based university and the programme is delivered on campus, it is essential that you are able to demonstrate ability and experience in online and or blended approaches to teaching.

Your responsibility will be to enable our students to achieve their potential and progress to studying a degree as independent, critical and creative learners.  In addition, you will be given opportunities to contribute to the development and delivery of the Computer Science & Mathematics module.

Please note that as some of the students you will teach will be under 18, you may be required to act as a Personal Tutor to these students and as such an enhanced check by the Disclosure and Barring Service is a prerequisite for the role.

This is a full time post (35 hours per week), and you will be offered on a fixed term contract until 31 August 2025.

About You

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience: 

Essential criteria

  1. Relevant teaching qualification (we will consider those who are working towards a teaching qualification) and/or relevant postgraduate degree (we will consider those who are working towards a postgraduate degree)
  2. Demonstrate aptitude and enthusiasm for teaching at pre-undergraduate level. Knowledge of effective pedagogy.
  3. Understanding of best practice in assessment and feedback on Computer Science courses. Evidence of high-quality materials design for Computer Science courses. Ability to communicate accurately effectively and succinctly in English.
  4. Awareness of, and commitment to inclusive practices in the classroom to cater for the needs of a diverse student body, 
  5. Proficiency in Computer Science subject areas such as Python programming language, software design/engineering, data structures, general AI, and principles of Object-Oriented Programming. 

Desirable criteria

  1. Experience teaching on international foundation programmes in UK universities.
  2. Evidence of successful teaching at pre-undergraduate level.
  3. Experience of having been responsible for academic development and pastoral care of international students as a personal tutor.
  4. Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy.
  5. Ability to devise and deliver lectures to undergraduate students.
  6. Ability to manage demanding workloads.
