Are you passionate about research and financial management? Join our dynamic team at the Department of Public Health and Primary Care. We manage an extensive research grant portfolio funded by renowned sponsors including the UK Medical Research Council (MRC), the Wellcome Trust, the British Heart Foundation (BHF), Cancer Research UK (CRUK), the UK National Institute of Health Research, the European Commission, and various industrial partners. 

As a member of the department's Professional Services Team, you will provide essential high-level support services to help us achieve research excellence and maximize funding. This will include creating complex grant applications using the University costing tool, ensuring close liaison with Principal Investigators and internal/external collaborators to ensure compliance with sponsors' terms and conditions. You will provide a comprehensive and efficient grant management service for existing grants and all new applications, coordinating both pre-award and post-award activity. You will provide advice on the specific application procedure around sponsor deadlines as well as Departmental and University policies. Ensure applications are submitted to the Research Office within the deadlines set and track the progress of the application in preparation for submission to the sponsor. You will oversee and manage grants held by over 20 senior academics, providing detailed financial management reports on a regular basis to ensure utilisation of funds according to sponsor T&Cs. You will serve as the main point of contact for queries from sponsors, external partners and internal departments, communicating complex information clearly and effectively.

The successful candidate will posses exceptional organisational and time management skills with the ability to prioritise a diverse and changing workload. The ability to pay attention to detail and work to a high level of accuracy is essential in this role. We are looking for someone who has excellent communication skills and can communicate with a wide range of individuals including internal and external parties. An individual who is pro-active and service-orientated, able to use their own initiative as well as adhering to the collaborative environment that our department fosters.

Candidates must be educated to at least A-level standard or equivalent, including English and Mathematics at GCSE level, or hold an NVQ Level 3. Previous experience of working in Higher Education would be beneficial but is not essential.

This is a part-time position offering 25 hours per week across four days. As a department, we are open to flexible working, but the role is not available on a completely remote basis.

Funding for the role is for 1 year from commencement in post.

The role holder will be based in Strangeways Research Laboratory, Worts Causeway, CB1 8RN.
