This role is based in the Research and Enterprise Office (REO), which is responsible for supporting the research, impact, knowledge exchange and commercialisation activity of the University.
Duties of the Role
We are seeking to appoint a Knowledge Exchange Officer to support Knowledge Exchange (KE) activities as part of the Knowledge Exchange team responsible for facilitating engagement with businesses and external organisations across all three academic Faculties. The post holder will work closely with our Knowledge Exchange Managers and the wider KE team to develop business relationships that will allow impact to be achieved and external income to be leveraged. They will also support the University’s annual monitoring requirements to funders including Research England, Higher Education Business and Community Interaction (HE-BCI) survey, the Knowledge Exchange Framework (KEF) and the KE Concordat.
The role holder will be involved in knowledge exchange proposal development and co-ordination, focused on supporting engagement with businesses and external organisations, and supporting the administration of consultancy and internal knowledge exchange funding project finances. The post will provide critical project support across the KE team, assisting with the day-to day operational and administrative requirements.
Other duties will include assisting with project budget costings and project delivery reporting, using project management tools, grant funding platforms, financial administrative systems, and supporting the maintenance of the University’s Intellectual Property (IP) portfolio working with other teams within the REO. In addition, you will support the development of marketing materials such as the coordination of KE case studies to promote the University’s services and technologies, and act as point of contact for business partner and academic queries, making appropriate referrals.
This post is fixed-term until 31 July 2025 to cover a secondment for a permanent member of staff. There is the potential for this role to be extended subject to funding. Whilst this is a full-time post, applications for part-time working 28.8 hours per week (0.8 fte) will be considered.
Skills and qualifications required
You will have a keen interest to work at the forefront of knowledge exchange and an understanding of the University research environment and / or commercial R&D together with the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Educated to degree level (or equivalent level of experience), you will have strong communication skills combined with a high level of integrity, self-motivation, and the ability to work to competing deadlines.
In addition, you will have previous experience of preparing written reports (or similar documentation), performing desk-based research, using databases and data manipulation, and stakeholder relationship management. Understanding of financial systems and project or programme budget administration will be useful skills in the role.
