The Role

The School of Population Health at RCSI seeks to appoint a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in health policy and systems science with a particular focus on policy and systems effectiveness research for positive population health outcomes. Appointment at Senior Lecturer or Lecturer level will be based on the experience and career stage of the successful candidate. They will be a professional who has a demonstrated academic record, a passion for teaching and research, who also enjoys working in a multidisciplinary and multicultural environment. They will demonstrate  innovation, independent initiative in research, education and impact, and will have excellent organisation and communication skills.

The post-holder will work as part of the Cameron Scholars programme team, which was established to support School growth through education, research and collaboration for impact. This new post will strengthen the team with a particular focus on population health policy analysis and health systems effectiveness evaluation. As noted below, candidates will be familiar with mixed methods approaches, but experience in quantitative methods for quasi and natural experiments, and/or big data examinations of health systems and services will be an advantage. 

A principal objective of the post is to conduct population health education at a high level of expertise to include curriculum and content-design, coordination, delivery and examination of education programmes including RCSI’s new MSc in Population Health Leadership, commencing in September 2024. In line with this aim, the successful candidate will bring a health policy, health and social care system analysis approach to the ongoing growth and development of the School and its mission.

The successful applicant will actively contribute to the research growth and profile of the School of Population Health through securing research funding as principal or co-applicant, publishing research in high quality publications at a level commensurate with experience. In line with the School’s mission noted below, the successful applicant should demonstrate contribution in their research field, including experience of policy evaluation and engagement; network-building; community and patient/public involvement and impact on decision-making or practice. Applicants with a record in quantitative and mixed methods approaches are welcome. 

The appointee will work closely with the Director of Academic Programmes, School of Population Health, the Cameron Scholars programme team, and other School teams to develop and deliver courses, research and research collaborations as required. 

The successful candidate will be a highly motivated individual based at our main campus in Dublin city centre. They will have specialist knowledge and practical experience in the use of digital platforms, supporting and leading the technical delivery of engaging online education. Knowledge and experience of technology-based pedagogy, student on-boarding, enrolment and support for course completion would be an advantage.
