Research Associate on Place-based Circular Society Innovation

We are looking for a post-doctoral researcher to work on a 3 year Economic and Social Research Council funded project. You will be part of an interdisciplinary and international research team based at MMU. Working closely with senior research staff on data collection and analysis, and the dissemination of research findings, your work will further the institution's standing in the research community and contribute to the development and application of new knowledge in the field of place-based circular society innovation.

The aim of the project is to explore the processes by which places can become more equitable, inclusive and environmentally sustainable by developing, implementing and scaling circular society innovations (CSI). Over the three years, we will:

• Assess how policy, practitioners and projects address sustainability challenges through the development and implementation of place-based CSI;
• Evaluate what solutions can be co-created to scale CSI; and
• Develop recommendations for policy makers, practitioners and civil society organisations to stimulate place-based CSI.

Our main research ‘place' is Greater Manchester, UK, though we will compare and contrast internationally through engagement with project team researchers in the US, Finland and the Netherlands. A strong foundation of the project is close collaboration with key non-academic stakeholders (e.g. local authorities, charities, think tanks) which have been involved in the design of the project and will remain closely involved in its implementation and impact.
