We are looking for a researcher, whose expertise lies in mathematics education, to work with Chris Brignell on Mapping Mathematics in Higher Education. This project is one element of an ongoing analysis of mathematics education in England at Advanced and Higher levels, itself part of the ambitious programme of work being undertaken by the Observatory for Mathematical Education. The main aim of this mapping project is to survey the undergraduate offer for mathematics degrees (including joint honours) based on documentary analysis of materials available to those students considering mathematics degrees. This project will employ appropriate analytic techniques to map the undergraduate maths offer across the UK. The aim is to develop a typology that includes important dimensions such as curriculum, choice, assessment, teaching methods and support. The finding of the research will be published in the summer of 2025 and inform the next stages of the Observatory’s work on mathematics education in universities.
