About the Role

As part of the Foundation Phase of the Digital Transformation Programme, we have established Competency Centres focused on Workflow, Automation, and Artificial Intelligence. These small, dynamic teams act as go-to experts and developers of these key technologies.

As a Business Technologist, you will play an active role in the University’s Workflow and Automation centre, enhancing user experience and services through technology application and continuous improvement activities.

This role is diverse and demanding. You might perform a process review, support an improvement project, build continuous improvement skills in teams and individuals, and act as a reliable expert and coach in workflow and automation. Collaboration is key, as you will work with people across the organisation, including senior leaders and sponsors, championing process improvement, continuous improvement, workflow, and automation.

Daily, you will work with departments, functions, and users in the following ways:

  • Consulting Role: Assess processes and advise on the suitability and applicability of the technology and models used by the centre.
  • Partnering Role: Work closely with users to deliver solutions that address business problems and can be applied elsewhere in the University.
  • Advisory Role: Direct user groups, provide training or documentation to help users find their own solutions.

Additional Responsibilities Include

  • When working with existing services to develop enterprise solutions, ensure that customer needs are reflected in the project requirements and co-creation activities with existing service providers and/or external partners.
  • Ensure that the Competency Centre’s capabilities align with the University’s present and future needs by representing them in user groups, communities of practice, and external forums.
  • Create and support a network of local champions who continually use the Competency Centre’s remit.

About You

Are you passionate about understanding user needs and exploring the potential of emerging technologies? Do you thrive in complex project environments and have a knack for using Continuous Improvement tools and techniques? If so, we want to hear from you!

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Has a proven track record of successfully navigating complex projects.
  • Can showcase constructive challenges to the status quo and drive impactful change.
  • Is comfortable working independently, as part of a team, or in a facilitation role.
  • Possesses excellent communication skills and can confidently engage with university members at all levels.
  • Manages their own workload while inspiring others to take initiative.
  • Maintains a positive attitude, is adaptable, and can smoothly handle shifting priorities.

Application Process

You will be required to upload a covering letter/supporting statement, CV and the details of two referees as part of your online application.

The closing date for applications is Thursday 8 August at 12:00 noon.

Interviews will take place on the week commencing 22 August and take place either in person or virtually.
