We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to join our dynamic and fast-paced Disability and Welfare Team. We are looking for a Safeguarding and Welfare Manager to support and promote UCEM’s safeguarding provision, ensuring UCEM’s adherence to statutory and regulatory requirements. You will act as UCEM’s Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and manage the day to day running of the Safeguarding Team, providing support and training where required. This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone with a real passion for supporting and safeguarding students in a Higher Education setting. 

Your accountabilities and responsibilities include: 

  • Act as Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) for UCEM.
  • Develop and embed activities that will shape our institutional culture in relation to safeguarding, gender-based violence, harassment, hate crime and bullying.
  • Develop and deliver training for staff covering Safeguarding, Prevent, Bullying and Harassment and Specialist Safeguarding Lead training.
  • Provide guidance to staff who are managing safeguarding cases on the frontline. 

Our main requirements: 

  • Completed Designated Safeguarding Lead training within the last 2 years.
  • Experience of working in Safeguarding in the Further or Higher Education sector.
  • Experience of producing policies and procedures for a variety of audiences.
  • In depth knowledge of the challenges experienced by university students, particularly relating to mental health and welfare.
  • Ability to manage difficult situations sensitively, compassionately and in a timely manner.
