Mental Health & Disability Manager

Kingston University – Student Services

The Student Wellbeing service at Kingston University is seeking a Student Mental Health & Disability Support Manager to lead the specialist advisory team for students with a disability, mental health condition or specific learning difference. You will lead the operations of a busy service that removes barriers, promotes inclusive practice, and creates reasonable adjustments to students’ learning programmes and university experience. You will advise colleagues on the policy implications of relevant legislation & guidance to ensure both institutional compliance and to support inclusive practice across the organisation.

The Person

We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated professional who is passionate about enabling students with a disability or specific learning difference to access, progress & succeed in their studies.

You will have experience of supporting learners with complex & varying needs including through management of casework and multiagency working.

You will have knowledge of relevant legislation & best practices, possibly with experience of writing policies or strategies and experience putting this into practice in managing service-based operations.

You will have strong decision making, interpersonal and communication skills, ideally with previous experience of line management or leading a team.

This Directorate plays a vital role in the retention and success of students at Kingston University. By taking a holistic, cohesive approach to the effective provision of services to our 17,000 students, we aim to enhance their experience through support that is effective and also responsive to their changing needs.

The Student Services team provides the University’s first and second line services for students incorporating the Information Centre, Library and Learning Services, Specialist Course Support and Administration, Student Engagement and Student Life, Health and Wellbeing. Services are designed to be accessible and inclusive of all students, to ensure their enquiries are resolved quickly and support is available to enable them to fully engage with and succeed in their studies.

This is a full-time permanent position with a starting salary of £48,251 per annum.
