Overview

We are seeking a Research Grants Administration Officer to join our Research Administration Team. The role is pivotal in providing research applications and grant management services to the Department and is the interface between (i) academic staff in the Department, (ii) Research Services and Research Accounts in the central University Administration and Services and (iii) external funding agencies.

The post-holder will have the opportunity to manage their own Grants portfolio, assisting with projects, tasks and queries from Principal Investigators and research staff under the guidance of our senior team colleagues, and the Research Facilitation & Administration Manager, as necessary.  In addition, this role involves undertaking general research support duties to help underpin our full grants operation. 

Full training and development will be provided.

Duties will include preparation of budget costings for funding applications, providing advice and support to applicants with reference to local policy and practice and funder/scheme criteria. You will also check that documentation is accurate, complete and has received appropriate departmental sign off. Other duties include the administration of financial and other administrative aspects of research grants, ensuring all transactions are eligible, recorded accurately and that spend is in line with University financial controls and funder terms.

The post is available immediately and will be based in the Department of Physiology Anatomy & Genetics, Sherrington Building, Parks Road, Oxford, OX1 3PT.

What we’re looking for

The successful candidate will possess the following qualities, qualifications and skills:

  • Competency in using Microsoft Office, databases and the ability to learn new IT systems quickly and confidently
  • Educated to A-level standard or equivalent
  • A good standard of numeracy, with the ability to understand and analyse financial data
  • A strong customer service focus with excellent interpersonal skills, along with excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team with a flexible and collaborative attitude
  • Highly organised, excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage and prioritise a varied, busy workload adhering to tight deadlines 

Ideally, you will also have:

  • Experience of research funding/research grants administration.
  • Experience of working in a university or other customer-facing environment.
