The Edinburgh College of Art is seeking to recruit an ECA SCF Lecturer in Fashion Interior Design on a part-time, fixed term basis for 12 months.

The University of Edinburgh, Edinburgh College of Art holds a Joint Partnership with Donghua University, Shanghai International College of Fashion and Innovation (SCF). 

As partners, ECA, School of Design currently delivers teaching projects each academic year to SCF Fashion students in all four years of their programme. 

SCF Grade 8 Lecturers will have responsibility for representing the work of the University in their specific field within the context of Donghua University (and the wider MoE of China) and will be expected to represent the School of Design, ECA and the University of Edinburgh in appropriate networks and in public activities whilst in Shanghai.

The post-holders will be motivated practitioners, within a discipline pertinent to Interior Design with in-depth knowledge of a variety of approaches to creative and innovative practice. These skills will be evidenced by appropriate academic achievement, and, ideally, the post holder will be able to demonstrate an element of international experience.  They will also have some experience of teaching in a Chinese context and be able to demonstrate the ability to develop teaching techniques for the delivery of key skills associated with the discipline.   

The post further involves undertaking citizenship and/or administrative duties in relation to teaching management, student support and/or other university-related activities. 

Skills and Attributes for Success

  • Educated to PG level in a relevant subject or equivalent experience
  • Comprehensive knowledge and expertise of methods and processes relating to interior design and an understanding of a wide range of materials and processes relevant to interior design
  • A strong track record of interior design industry experience and up to date practice based design ability 
  • Experience of teaching and educational administration in higher/further transnational education
  • Evidence of the ability to assimilate theory and practice, through your practice and teaching
  • Experienced in a range of methods of teaching and delivery of course content
  • Confidence with digital technologies for teaching
  • Proven ability to devise and/or manage multiple teaching, learning and assessment activities. 
  • Skills in managing, motivating and supporting people (students, colleagues)
  • Demonstrable experience delivering transnational education in a Chinese context and demonstrable commitment to participating fully in academic life, including collaborative working and collegiality both in Edinburgh and Shanghai.
  • Confident, clear communicator with obvious passion for the subject of Interior Design and its related disciplines
  • Empathic and student-focused
  • Ability to work successfully as part of an international team
  • Display evidence of being able to organise, prioritise and manage time effectively
  • Commitment to exceptional student experience and proven ability to foster and embed a strong student-focused transnational culture
  • Commitment to equality and diversity in the workplace
