We are looking for an experienced Maintenance Assistant with technical knowledge and expertise to keep the University’s buildings in good working condition and ensure the safety of our staff, students and visitors. You will carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM), a broad range of reactive tasks and minor installations of various electrical works.

You will work independently and autonomously on most assigned jobs, with occasional collaborative work.

As Maintenance Assistant you can expect to be involved in:

Delivering maintenance services (planned and reactive), without close supervision across the University’s estate to comply with statutory legislation and University policies as directed by the Electrical Maintenance Manager or their nominee.

Maintaining up-to-date knowledge and skills and apply a working understanding of the University’s policies on health, safety and environment, conduct and behaviours.

Liaising with the Estates Department’s administration to ensure the CAFM system database is kept up to date with relevant and accurate information. Updating asset data as required e.g., to capture details for PPM. Monitoring own use of consumable stock levels and liaising with the Stores team to help maintain to appropriate levels.

Taking full ownership of the work directly assigned. Communicating fully and accurately document works undertaken to detail any additional works.

What will you bring to the role?

NVQ 2 or City and Guilds in a relevant trade or equivalent skills obtained through practical work experience

Proven general basic maintenance skills in at least one trade: building, maintenance, electrical

Working knowledge of health and safety procedures in relation to building and maintenance tasks and practical familiarity with and working knowledge of the electrical trade

The ability to remain effective and efficient under pressure, including maintaining professional communication

General basic IT skills.
