About the Role

  • To provide specialist mental health mentoring to students with mental health disabilities and to support them identify and manage any impact on their studies.
  • To promote strategies for independent learning and positive wellbeing to help enable students to achieve their full potential. To work in close consultation with the Disability Team, Mental Health Nurses and the wider Wellbeing and Student Support team to discuss any relevant issues or arising concerns affecting the student.
  • In consultation with the Disability Coordinator, to ensure that the service provided is appropriate, monitored and reviewed regularly.
  • To monitor efficacy of support interventions, record and report student outcomes in accordance with the DSA Quality Assurance Framework.
  • To comply with the annual audit requirements as part of the University’s Non-Medical Helper provider registration.
  • Where the support requirements fall beyond the boundaries of the mentoring role, to signpost and refer students to other internal or external, statutory or other, sources of support.
  • To contribute towards raising awareness of disability and wellbeing across the University.
  • To undertake any other duties, such as contributing towards other support initiatives, as assigned by the Disability Coordinator.
  • To operate in accordance with Wellbeing and Student Support confidentiality, record keeping, case management systems and other internal processes.

This role will require an enhanced DBS check. 

About You

We are looking to recruit an experienced, and passionate, Mental Health Mentor to join our Disability Team.

Working with within Wellbeing and Student Support Services the Mental Health Mentors provide support to students with workload prioritisation, goal-setting, planning and supporting individuals to reach their full potential at university.

We are seeking a Mentor that has a detailed understanding of working with people who have mental health conditions such as bipolar disorder, psychosis, depression, anxiety, and phobias.
