Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position in Applied and Computational Mathematics, with a particular emphasis on Numerical Methods and Fluid Dynamics. This three-year research position is funded by the EPSRC (see more here) and focuses on computing Lagrangian means in multi-scale fluids. The numerical and theoretical tools developed in this project will have applications in wave-mean-flow interactions in the ocean and atmosphere, as well as turbulence modelling in various branches of fluid dynamics.
The project is led by Dr. Hossein Kafiabad at Durham University and involves close collaboration with Prof. Jacques Vanneste and his research group at the University of Edinburgh, and Dr. Chris Wilson at the National Oceanography Centre. The research involves developing theories and numerical algorithms, implementing them in computer code, and exploring their applications in geophysical fluids and wind energy. There is potential for hybrid working arrangements to suit the prospective candidate.
