Job description
The Courtauld works to advance how we see and understand the visual arts, as an internationally renowned centre for the teaching, research of art history and a major public gallery.
The Courtauld is a small specialist university and home to the largest community of art historians and conservators in the UK. The Courtauld offers a range of degree programmes from BA to PhD in the History of Art, curating and the conservation of easel and wall paintings. The Courtauld is one of the leading centres in the world for education and research in conservation. We run three year MAs in the conservation of Easel paintings (18 students) and Wall paintings (6-12 students) and a 12-month MA in Buddhist Art History and Conservation (8-10 students, joint with the History of Art department).
The Roles:
The Courtauld is inviting expressions of interest for fieldwork supervisor roles for its upcoming programme of fieldwork, in the UK and abroad. The roles entail supervision of MA Conservation of Wall Painting students on its sites in Italy, UK and India between October 2024 and March 2025. The longest contract is for 8 weeks (6 weeks onsite in India) and other roles are for 1-2 weeks onsite (UK/ Italy). These roles would suit practical wall paintings conservators with a variety of experience and we will provide support to you in taking on this role, as needed. This is a great opportunity to gain experience of mentoring and supervising conservators at the very beginning of their careers, which is a fantastic transferrable skill that can be applied across other team and site projects.
