Lecturer in Music and Audiovisual Media - Grade 7/8

University of Liverpool - Department of Music

Location: Liverpool
Salary: £38,205 to £57,698 pa
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Permanent
Placed On: 8th July 2024
Closes: 5th August 2024
Job Ref: 082266

The University of Liverpool seeks to appoint a permanent, full-time Lecturer in Music and Audiovisual Media (1.0 FTE, Teaching & Research post). The successful candidate will undertake duties relevant to their primary specialism as a researcher and teacher in Music and Audiovisual Media, alongside secondary areas of Music as appropriate.

The role includes the delivery of research-led teaching to students in classical and popular Music, as well as classes that include students studying Communication and Media, Music Technology, and Game Design. You would play an important role in co-delivering relevant components of the MA Music and Audiovisual Media. Duties will include large-group teaching, focused seminars, and individual supervision of projects at undergraduate and postgraduate level, so previous experience of teaching music and audiovisual media in Higher Education contexts is required. The diverse stylistic and technological range of music in film and gaming requires both the ability to teach using theoretical language and music notation and also the ability to explain musical features to those who may lack that grounding or background (e.g., those engaged in popular music, music technology, or other subject-areas outside of Music). Strong interpersonal and communication skills are fundamental to this role.

We expect the successful candidate to be a qualified researcher in the field of music and audiovisual media, to contribute 3\*/4\* outputs to Music’s REF2029 submission, and to have experience of other research activities as commensurate with career stage. You will be an excellent administrator, with a strong commitment to providing a high-quality student experience for all.

The post is offered at Grade 7 or Grade 8, subject to qualifications and experience (see criteria).

A PhD completed (or close to completion) in Music or relevant area is required for this role.

The post is available from 1 October 2024.

The University of Liverpool is committed to enhancing workforce diversity. We actively seek to attract, develop, and retain colleagues with diverse backgrounds and perspectives. We welcome applications from all genders/gender identities, Black, Asian, or Minority Ethnic backgrounds, individuals living with a disability, and members of the LGBTQIA+ community.
