Founded in 1882, Selwyn is young by University of Cambridge standards, and this has encouraged a distinctive ethos that is both traditional and forward-looking.
Ranking academically as one of the top performing colleges in the University, Selwyn is a community of 400 undergraduates, 300 postgraduates, 66 Fellows, 25 Emeritus Fellows and a highly-engaged team of professional staff. The College is committed to fair access, and stands out for its work in increasing the number of undergraduates from schools and colleges with little or no tradition of sending students to Cambridge. Recent developments of a new auditorium and library facilities, as well as low-carbon refurbishments of accommodation, have added to the quality of experience enjoyed by members of the community. Selwyn is a markedly open, tolerant and friendly college where staff, fellows and students engage harmoniously with one another in pursuit of common aims.
A new Master is sought to succeed Roger Mosey who will complete his time in post in Summer 2025. The Master leads the College as a community of self-governing scholars, and is an external ambassador. Applications are sought from individuals of distinction, with the warmth, charisma, and ability to inspire an ambitious and increasingly diverse community of scholars and students. The Master is not a chief executive, but is expected to provide leadership and motivation through example and consensus, ensuring an inclusive environment where all voices can be heard.
The next Master will have a distinguished record of achievement, and will be committed to academic excellence and with proven success in collaborative leadership. Whether drawing on a career inside or outside the education sector, the College seeks someone who is a clear communicator with the ambassadorial skills required for the role, as well as appropriate sound judgement, and a commitment to the distinctive combination of excellence and inclusivity that characterises the College.
