An exciting opportunity has arisen for a postdoctoral rehabilitation researcher to lead a new project funded by the NIHR which is continuing our successful studies to reduce falls in care home residents. It will be based in the Centre for Rehabilitation & Ageing Research, School of Medicine at the University of Nottingham (Injury, Recovery and Inflammation Sciences Unit). The position is based in the Queens Medical Centre.

The purpose of the role is to lead the research which aims to implement our Action Falls programme in UK care homes. We have proven that Action Falls can reduce falls by 43%, but we do not know the best way to enable care homes to use it.

Tasks will include continuing our work with NHS-E to implement Action Falls training across the NHS and Social care organisations, continuing to develop & evaluate online Action Falls training with UoNO, work with care home digital record providers (CASPA) to facilitate Action Falls becoming part of their systems.

You will manage, plan and conduct research, resolve problems that arise, write up your research findings and collaborate with colleagues on areas of shared interest. There is also the potential to present your work at conferences and to develop future funding applications. As a member of the team you will be expected to strive for excellence, behave professionally/ethically, respect other staff members and help to create an environment of inclusivity.

You must have a PhD or equivalent in rehabilitation, health care or a related field or the equivalent in professional qualifications & experience in the research area. It is essential to have practical experience of working with the care home sector, NHS-E and digital records.

The University of Nottingham provides generous employment packages whilst supporting the well-being of our staff to help them reach their full potential. As a university employee, you will have an excellent choice of benefits and rewards, including access to fitness & health facilities, staff discounts and travel schemes, along with a competitive holiday allowance and a highly attractive pension scheme. The University of Nottingham is an equal opportunities employer and welcomes applications from all sections of the community.

The post will be offered on a part-time (7.25 hours per week), fixed-term contract available until 31st August 2025 (with the possibility of extension subject to funding).

Requests for secondment from internal candidates may be considered on the basis that prior agreement has been sought from both your current line manager & the manager of your substantive post, if you are already undertaking a secondment role.
