To support the UK’s national centre for excellence for ground and space-based astronomy we have an opportunity for an Estates Operations and Safety Manager to lead the UKATC Estates Services team in support of STFC’s vision and mission. 

This is a key role at the high profile STFC Royal Observatory Edinburgh, leading the supportive Estates Services team in the provision of an efficient, effective and customer focussed estates and facilities management service. 

The role holder will have a high degree of autonomy and principal accountability for the efficient and effective service delivery and the compliant operation of the STFC Estate and technical infrastructure that directly enables research output, including all aspects of built environment projects, hard and soft facilities services and site health and safety. 

The post-holder will need to be confident managing internal teams and contracted service providers in the delivery of maintenance and facilities services and project delivery with equal composure and efficiency. 

This is a fast-paced, varied, and interesting role, in which a productivity focused and enthusiastic but methodical professional will thrive. 

It is an exciting time to join the Estates Services team as we continue our ‘One Team’ approach to service improvement and strive for excellence across the STFC portfolio. 

Essential Shortlisting Criteria:

  • Degree or Level 6 qualification in a construction related discipline (facilities management, engineering, building surveying, structural, construction) or significant experience in leading teams delivering hard and soft facility services
  • CDM 2015 for Clients
  • IOSH Managing Safely/IOSH Managing Construction Safely/NEBOSH General Certificate
  • Asbestos Awareness 

Desirable

  • Professional membership of IWFM, RICS, RIBA, CIOB, CIBSE
  • BOHS P405 – Management of Asbestos in Buildings
  • L8 Legionella Awareness 

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Previous experience of leading estates delivery in an operational environment
  • Experience of delivering estates projects works
  • Previous experience of managing health and safety
