Aston University’s College of Engineering and Physical Sciences is seeking a highly motivated and talented Postdoctoral Researcher to join our project on the development and commercialization of advanced cascade heat pump technology.

Role Overview:

This exciting opportunity involves planning, coordinating, and monitoring project activities, preparing project documentation, and ensuring strict adherence to timelines and milestones. The successful candidate will develop simulation models and tools for the design and performance prediction of cascade heat pumps under various conditions. Additionally, they will conduct end-user surveys to inform preliminary designs, integrate CO2 and R1234yf heat pumps into a cohesive system, and optimize the design for enhanced efficiency and performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and refine simulation models using tools such as Python, TRNSYS, and MATLAB.
  • Prepare progress reports and updates for stakeholders.
  • Integrate and optimize CO2 and R1234yf heat pumps within the system design.
  • Publish high-quality research articles, conference papers, and technical reports.
  • Present findings at national and international conferences.
  • Collaborate with project partners on product development, marketing strategies, and distribution channels.
  • Contribute to the development of grant applications and funding proposals.

Qualifications:

  • PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Energy Systems, or a related field.
  • Strong background in heat pump technology, thermodynamics, and fluid mechanics.
  • Proven experience with simulation tools such as Python, TRNSYS, and/or MATLAB.
  • Demonstrated track record of research publications in reputable journals.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Experience in project management and reporting is highly desirable.
