ABOUT THE POST

You will make a major contribution to the teaching of Television Journalism in the Creative Technologies and Digital Media Subject Area and will take responsibility for much of the Broadcast Journalism provision in that area, concentrating mainly on television.

You will also be involved in a range of other activities in the area, both within the university and in liaison with its various partners. As well as Broadcast Journalism, these activities will include general journalistic study, teaching, analysis and production of various sorts. Experience and knowledge relating to various types of contemporary communications (political, marketing, social media etc) would be beneficial in this role.

You will make a significant teaching contribution and will teach on undergraduate and potentially postgraduate courses, the extended degree in Journalism and other cognate and developing courses as appropriate. You will have worked as a broadcast journalist in industry and be appropriately qualified and will have experience of higher education teaching and have knowledge of and ability to use various journalism-related hardware and software equipment and packages, especially audio-visual and related ones. You will be skilled and experienced in using audio-visual equipment including but not restricted to cameras, sound equipment and mixing and editing equipment.

Beyond this, you will have some knowledge of journalistic theory and practice in one or more of the following areas as well as having an ability to contribute to all of them: package creation, reporting, writing, media law, social media journalism, political journalism, data journalism, arts journalism, sports journalism, and fashion journalism and more.

Please note: We are looking for a journalist who can shoot and edit their own TV packages, and who is capable of teaching those skills to students.

You will be familiar with multiplatform production and have some knowledge and experience of the media, and creative industries sectors and have been engaged in some research and/or creative practice in these sectors.

You will be capable of student support and guidance and will be competent and efficient with quality assurance and health and safety processes. The post involves improving student retention, progression and achievement and contributing to the department's creative and research output and profile. It also involves assisting with external income generation and external partnerships. The postholder will be an excellent teacher, colleague, team-worker, technician, professional, administrator, and ambassador for the course and for the university.
